There were 17 billion video chats on Messenger in 2017 - Credit by Facebook
Messenger Lite, the slimmed-down Android version of Facebook’s messaging application for emerging markets and areas with poor internet connectivity, now offers video chat.
The social network said in a Newsroom post that there were 17 billion video chats on Messenger in 2017, double the previous year’s total.
Users with the latest version of Messenger Lite can open an existing conversation or search the contact list for the person they want to chat with, and then tap the video chat icon in the upper-right corner of the screen.
Audio calls can also be upgraded to video chats while still active by tapping the video icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
Facebook launched Messenger Lite in October 2016
in Kenya, Tunisia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Venezuela.
Another 150 countries were added last April, joined by more established markets the U.S., Canada, the U.K. and Ireland last October.
