Who’s Hiring: The Military And Taco Bell

According to a new study conducted by Simply-Hired.com, the employers with the most open positions nationwide are the U.S. Airforce, Taco Bell, and the Army National Guard.

Meanwhile, BNet says that another survey, from the National Employment Law Project, found that 3/4 of the jobs created in 2010 paid less than $15 per hour.

The three fastest-growing occupations in 2010 were retail sales, cashiers, and food prep, which as we all know, pay wonderfully.

BNet commentator Alain Sherter says that obviously we need fast-food servers, janitors, and so on. “But…the American economy, 70 percent of which consists of consumer spending, will struggle to recover — ever — if most new jobs are in low-wage sectors and the U.S. military….It isn’t enough for this country to create jobs — we must create good jobs. Poorer workers make a poorer nation.”

This trend may not be confined to the recent years of the recession: economists found that between 1980 and 2005, job growth has been fasted at the margins of the labor market, where the highest and lowest-skilled workers are found.
