Windows Invests $24 Million in Apps

Trying to stay afloat in the smartphone community

“There’s an app for that” now not only surmises Apple's current dominance on the mobile market, but also can be used to describe Google’s Android smartphone marketplace. 

But for Nokia and Microsoft it's a whole other story, and both companies recognize their limitations. On Monday, Microsoft joined with Nokia and announced that they would devote 18 million euros ($23.9 million) spread over the next three years to develop a new application expansion program called AppCampus. This platform will be part of Helsinki's Aalto University, according to Reuters.

And, it’s about time. Only 37 percent of developers are interested in producing apps for these phones and around 65,000 apps available for use on the Windows phone (Apple has around 500,000), per Reuters.
