CNN’s Rachel Smolkin started off Monday with some big news for the Washington bureau and network. In its effort to further grow CNN Politics Digital, it has swooped up Yahoo’s Chris Moody as well as The Hill’s Alexandra Jaffe and The Washington Post’s Jeff Simon.
Moody is slated to join just before the midterm elections on October 27 and Jaffe will just after. For Simon, he returns to CNN after joining The Washington Post from the network in 2013 as a video producer.

Subject: Staff news: Digital Politics Team
I’m thrilled to announce two more additions to the digital politics team.
Chris Moody will be a senior digital correspondent who brings his distinctive, off-beat brand of political coverage to CNN. He knows how to coax politicians to show a different side of themselves, whether that’s getting Rep. Tulsi Gabbard http://yhoo.it/ZgTCrN to surf in Hawaii or Rep. Tim Griffin to ride a dirt bike in Arkansas. As David Chalian says, Chris is a “differentiator who simply doesn’t believe in commodity coverage, a true collaborator and incredibly nice guy.”
He joins us on Oct. 27, and we’re delighted to have him with us in time for the midterm elections.
Alexandra Jaffe is the latest addition to our breaking news team. She is a fast-rising star at The Hill, where she covers campaigns. Alex will join us soon after the midterms.
Also, please join me in welcoming a previously announced hire: Jeff Simon returns to CNN today as a video producer for the digital team after a stint at The Washington Post. We’re happy to have him back with the CNN family.
More exciting news to come.
