In early September 2014, game developer and publisher Zynga released a new and improved version of Zynga Poker on mobile devices. The game was completely redesigned with a modern, “sophisticated” look, better animations and improved sound effects. The app offered a new table design with all new cards and a smarter betting system, all in an effort to better mimic the real-life experience of playing Texas Hold ‘Em with others.
While the company’s intentions were good, player feedback has been mixed. While some users liked the game’s improvements, others preferred the original style of play. In an effort to please as many players as possible, Zynga has announced the upcoming launch of Zynga Poker Classic, the original game, which will return to mobile platforms later this year.
Zynga Poker Classic will offer the “traditional” mobile poker experience players became used to over the last six years, while the new Zynga Poker app will remain available, with all of the improvements intact. Both apps will allow users to sign in and carry their progress (profiles, history and chips) from one app to the other, depending on their preference of play style.
According to a blog post from Jon B. Liu, vice president of Zynga Poker, gamers can expect Zynga Poker Classic to launch on iOS “in the coming weeks,” and on Android later in 2014. For those who can’t wait, the original, classic Zynga poker experience is still available to play on Facebook.
“To meet the demand we are seeing for both games, we will soon offer two distinct products – Zynga Poker Classic and the new Zynga Poker. We want to fuel your passion for poker, no matter if you want to play the traditional Zynga Poker Classic or experience the innovative new Zynga Poker. By giving you two poker games, you now have the option to choose how you play,” the post reads.
