Elton John, James Corden Hosting TV Benefits for COVID-19 Victims and First Responders

Fox and CBS telecasts will feature musicians performing from home

When a national and global crisis hits, it’s often only a matter of time before one or several networks airs a star-studded benefit to raise money for those affected, and the coronavirus pandemic is no exception.

Fox and iHeartMedia are teaming up for a musical benefit on Sunday night hosted by Elton John to raise money for COVID-19 victims and first responders. A day later, James Corden will host a CBS benefit.

Called Fox Presents The iHeart Living Room Concert for America, Sunday’s hourlong special will air ad-free at 9 p.m. ET. Fox will also offer the benefit across all of its linear and digital platforms.

The event will feature at-home performances from Alicia Keys, the Backstreet Boys, Billie Eilish, Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong, Mariah Carey and Tim McGraw. The artists will use their personal cell phones, cameras and audio equipment during the broadcast.

In addition to the musical performances, the special will also pay tribute to health professionals on the front lines, including first responders and local people, who are risking their lives to help fight COVID-19’s spread.

It will encourage viewers to support two charities: Feeding America and First Responders Children’s Foundation.

The following night, CBS will air Homefest: James Corden’s Late Late Show special on Monday at 10 p.m. ET.

Corden will host from his garage, and the special will include musical performances—all from their respective homes—by BTS in South Korea, Andrea Bocelli in Italy, Dua Lipa in London, and Billie Eilish with Finneas and John Legend in L.A.

During the special, Corden will also speak with David Blaine, Will Ferrell and other celebs.

In Homefest, Corden will urge viewers to follow the recommended guidelines from the CDC and government officials to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, and explain how they can donate to The CDC Foundation and Feed the Children.
