What’s the first information you consume in the morning?

If I’m not working, usually the Today show. It’s my comfort zone. I have some coffee, change a diaper or two, and see what Matt Lauer and the gang are up to. If I’m on the road or on set, Twitter is the first thing. I can get a glimpse of what is going on all over the world. It’s also a good place to find out what’s happening at work—like whether or not our show was cancelled. It’s kind of funny when I open up Twitter and it tells me, “Community is being moved to Friday nights!”

What occupies your mind in the car, on the subway, train or bus?

In the car, I listen to XM Radio every morning. I’ll put it on Blog Radio, like BrooklynVegan, or ESPN sports radio. I also like Hip-Hop Nation on Channel 44. Because of [Community co-star Donald Glover’s rapper alter-ego] Childish Gambino, there’s been a resurgence of hip-hop directly in my world.

Are you a TV junkie, or on an airtime-restricted diet?

I don’t watch as much as you’d think. I spend so much time talking about TV, so by the time I get home, it’s nice to decompress. If I do watch stuff, it’ll be Netflix or HBO Go on my iPad. Right now, I’m watching old episodes of The Wire. With my wife, I’ll literally watch The Bachelor or The Bachelorette. I kind of enjoy it. It’s a great baseline for talking about everything that’s going on in the world.

Before bed, do you: bite into a novel; graze on Twitter; or fast until morning?

I try to read something. Lately I’ve been really into graphic novels. I just finished a series called The Umbrella Academy.

Which is more nutritious: print or Web?

Print just makes sense to me. I like to hold stuff, and I like being able to imagine and fill in the blanks. On the Web, sometimes you can find an answer too quickly and it ends the conversation. Like, “What are the lyrics to ‘Night Moves’ … ?” You go online and search and now everyone knows, and you can’t make up your own Bob Seger lyrics!

Give us the skinny on your favorite app.

Right now I’m really into the ESPN Fantasy Football app. I have three teams too many. And I like Zite. It’s pretty cool to make your own magazines.

What’s your biggest digital indulgence?

I download music pretty much every day. I’m always keeping my ears open for what people are recommending. On set, Joel [McHale], Alison [Brie], Donald [Glover] and I talk about music a lot of the time. We’re always burning CDs for each other.

With such a bloated media universe, how do you cut out the fat?

I think it’s about being open to change and constantly adjusting to it. Otherwise, things can get cluttered pretty quickly.
