President-elect Trump slipped out of Trump Tower for dinner at New York’s 21 Club Tuesday night, and left the media behind—breaking the longstanding tradition for presidents and presidents-elect that they travel with a protective press pool.
“We are going to have fights with this new administration about coverage,” said Mark Halperin on MSNBC’s Morning Joe Wednesday. “The First Amendment is really important, and while we fight with the Trump people about this, we need to make the public understand: We’re doing this in the public interest. It’s vitally important for the democracy. He should just start playing by the rules.”
